Texas Drought

Texas faces the worst widespread summer drought threat in the nation. Unlike most other states with drought threats, Texas has taken very few steps to plan or prepare for its future drought risks.

For more information on how prepared Texas is for its growing drought threat, read the detailed state summary.

Is Texas taking action?

  • Texas has not conducted a statewide climate change vulnerability assessment and has not prepared a climate change adaptation plan
  • However, Texas is one of only a handful of states that have taken extensive measures to prepare for their current drought risks; for example, drought is covered Texas's State Hazard Mitigation Plan and Drought Preparedness Plan, though not in its Emergency Management Plan
