Oregon Drought

Oregon is one of the leaders in preparing for its drought risks. It has taken strong action to address current drought risks and done more than most states to understand the threat of climate change-related drought in the future. However, it could do more to plan for future drought risks and implement those plans.

For more information on how prepared Oregon is for its growing drought threat, read the detailed state summary.

Is Oregon taking action?

  • The Oregon Climate and Health Profile, a component of the Building Resilience Against Climate Effects (BRACE) framework, includes information on the health impacts of drought and calls for the development of a climate change adaptation plan for promoting public health
  • The Governor of Oregon has issued an executive order to update the Oregon Emergency Operations Plan to reflect emerging information on future drought risks
  • There is only limited evidence that recommendations from the state’s climate change adaptation plan for drought have been implemented
