America's Preparedness Report Card 2015

Minnesota faces growing threats from extreme heat and drought. The state has taken several steps to address its current risks, but it has only taken limited action to address the ways in which climate change could increase these risks in the coming decades. The state has initiatives such as the Climate and Health program, but could do more by developing a comprehensive climate change adaptation plan.

Extreme Heat

Minnesota is projected to see more than a five-fold increase in its number of heat wave days by 2050. The state has taken some steps to address its current and future extreme heat risks, but it could do much more to increase its overall level of preparedness.

Drought

Minnesota faces its greatest threat from drought, but it is also doing a lot to prepare for its current and future drought risks. The state is taking strong action to understand its climate change-related drought risks, but needs to develop a comprehensive adaptation plan to be better prepared for the future.
