Massachusetts is also a leader in preparing for future inland flooding risks. The state has assessed its vulnerability to climate change-related flooding, developed an adaptation plan that covers inland flooding, and has begun to implement strategies to improve the state's resilience.

  • Massachusetts’ Climate Preparedness Initiative established a $50 million investment to address vulnerabilities in public health, transportation, energy and Massachusetts’ built environment from climate change impacts including inland flooding
  • The Climate Change Adaptation Report for Massachusetts (published 2011) supports the identification, development, and implementation of strategies to advance Massachusetts’ ability to adapt to climate change-related inland flooding
  • The Department of Transportation participated in a Federal Highway Administration Pilot Project and completed a climate change vulnerability assessment and explored adaptation options for future inland flooding risks
