Kentucky Wildfires

Kentucky's threat level is lower than most other states facing growing wildfire risks. But the state is also doing less to prepare than the majority of states. Kentucky could do more by addressing the effects climate change could have on future wildfires.

For more information on how prepared Kentucky is for its growing wildfire threat, read the detailed state report.

Is Kentucky taking action?

  • Kentucky has taken very few steps to begin to understand how its wildfire threat may change in the future and needs to conduct a climate change vulnerability assessment to be better prepared
  • There is no evidence that the state has developed a statewide climate change adaptation plan or has incorporated future wildfire projections into state programs and activities
  • Kentucky takes part in the national Firewise program, and provides support to its communities to help protect themselves from the impacts of wildfires
