Kentucky Inland Flooding

Kentucky has one of the worst preparedness scores for inland flooding compared to other states. While it is doing a lot to prepare for the inland flooding risks it faces today, the state has ignored the need to address how climate change may exacerbate its future flooding threat.

For more information on how prepared Kentucky is for its growing inland flooding threat, read the detailed state report.

Is Kentucky taking action?

  • Kentucky has not completed a statewide climate change vulnerability assessment to evaluate future inland flooding risks
  • The state could do more by developing a detailed climate change adaptation plan and implementing policies to improve its resilience to future inland flooding risks
  • The Kentucky Emergency Management flood mitigation programs and trainings help communities across the state develop and implement flood control projects for today's risks
