Kansas Wildfires

Kansas' threat from wildfires is projected to nearly quadruple by 2050. Despite this large increase, the state has taken almost no action to prepare for its future wildfire risks.

For more information on how prepared Kansas is for its growing wildfire threat, read the detailed state report.

Is Kansas taking action?

  • Kansas takes part in the national Firewise program, and provides support to its communities to help prepare for and reduce impacts from wildfires
  • The state has not taken many steps to understand how climate change might affect its wildfire risks; a detailed vulnerability assessment would help Kansas prepare better for future wildfires
  • The state has also not developed a climate change adaptation plan or implemented policies to improve resilience to future wildfires
