Indiana Inland Flooding

There are more than 270,000 people living in Indiana's flood-prone areas. The state has taken less action overall than most states to prepare for its changing inland flooding risks. It has done almost nothing to plan for future risks or develop strategies to improve its resilience to climate change.

For more information on how prepared Indiana is for its growing inland flooding threat, read the detailed state report.

Is Indiana taking action?

  • The Department of Transportation produced a report that briefly discusses future changes in inland flooding impacts and potential adaptation measures for the sector
  • Other than the DOT's report, Indiana has not assessed its vulnerability to climate change-related inland flooding risks
  • Indiana also has not produced a statewide climate change adaptation plan or implemented strategies to reduce future inland flooding impacts
