Indiana Extreme Heat

Today, Indiana rarely experiences days with dangerous heat levels. By 2050, the state is projected to see an average of 40 danger days a year. Although Indiana has taken steps to prepare for current heat risks, it has done very little to address its future risks.

Is Indiana taking action?

  • Indiana has multiple plans in place to help reduce current impacts from extreme heat including a hazard mitigation plan and emergency operations plan
  • The state has provided general information to the public on future extreme heat impacts
  • Indiana has taken almost no action to assess its vulnerability to climate change-related extreme heat, develop adaptation plans, or implement resilience measures
