Georgia Wildfires

Georgia has more than 4.6 million people at risk of wildfires. While the state has taken extensive action to address its current risks, it has done very little to understand future risks, plan for them, or implement adaptation strategies to improve the state's resilience.

For more information on how prepared Georgia is for its growing wildfire threat, read the detailed state report.

Is Georgia taking action?

  • Beyond acknowledging that climate change could affect future wildfires in Georgia's State Energy Strategy plan, Georgia has not assessed its future vulnerabilities to wildfire risks and impacts
  • The state has not produced a climate change adaptation plan nor implemented strategies to improve wildfire resilience
  • Georgia's Hazard Mitigation Strategy and the state's emergency response plan address the state's current wildfire risks and the state provides communication materials for residents on how to reduce wildfire impacts to communities
