Colorado Drought

By 2050, summer drought severity in Colorado is projected to be among the worst in the country. The state has taken strong action (far more than most states) to assess its vulnerability to climate change-driven drought, but could do more by beginning to implement adaptation strategies for its growing drought risk.

For more information on how prepared Colorado is for its growing drought threat, read the detailed state report.

Is Colorado taking action?

  • Colorado has taken far more action than most other states to understand its future drought risks
  • The Colorado Water Availability Study incorporated climate model projections into future water demands, using them in future planning
  • Like most states, however, Colorado has not done anything to implement climate change adaptation strategies for future drought
