Arkansas Drought

Arkansas has taken less action than almost all the other states in preparing for its overall drought risks. By 2050, its summer drought threat is projected to more than double, and more preparation is needed.

Is Arkansas taking action?

  • The state has not implemented any adaptation measures aimed toward addressing future climate-related drought risks
  • The Arkansas Governor's Commission on Global Warming released a report in 2008 that recognized potential increases in drought, but the state has not evaluated its vulnerability to future droughts
  • Arkansas' All-Hazards Mitigation Plan tracks the occurrences of drought throughout the state, but has not published any future projections of drought risk
